Why Nigerians hardly survive cancer – Prof. Okoye

Prof. Ifeoma Okoye is a radiologist at the Radiation Medicine Department at University of Nigeria College of Medicine (UNCM) and University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Enugu. Okoye, who is also the founder of a non-governmental organisation, Breast Without Spot (BWS), in this interview, explains why Nigerians hardly survive cancer. She, however, says the situation could be reversed by eating fresh fruits and vegetables, exercising, monitoring industrial wastes and pollution as well as vehicular and generator emissions.
Why is cancer rate on the high side now in Nigeria ?

There are many confounding reasons, though the genetic aspect has always been there and you have more genetic modification going on because of triggers like radiation. Recently, the World Health Organisation (WHO) came up with information to show association between mobile phones and cancer and advised that it is safer to use earphones so that you keep a distance between your phone and yourself. For instance, you can put it on speaker to reduce contact. I mean there are so many other things to show that radiation has actually increased genetic modification resulting in cancer.

WHO, in 2009, made a statement that the main reason for cancer in developing countries is the embrace of the western culture. If we examine that statement of embracing western culture, you look at increased industrialization, increased urbanization, and crowding. And, of course, in industrialization, there is environmental pollution.

There was a study that analyzed the relationship between increasing cancer and increasing age of the population and the population living longer. We look at the contribution of diet, the contribution of urban life style, like sedentary life style, which is contributing to obesity. These factors are shared by urban non-communicable diseases like hypertension, diabetes and premature ageing, which is called degenerative diseases. So, industrialisation increases environmental pollution and, in Nigeria, we have not made any effort in that aspect.

There are so many cars that are not road worthy on our roads, and the fumes that they generate contribute to environmental pollution and nobody is doing anything about that. Our refuse disposal is totally ineffective. There is so much putrefaction going on with much of our refuse hanging around, bringing out all sorts of odour we are all inhaling and then, of course, we cannot overlook the generators. If you go to high density areas where people are living in flats, where people are living very close to each other, the fumes from generator exhausts is just what the people inhale. One of the things they said, after evaluating the factors including the increased utilization of alcohol and oral contraceptives, is that there are viruses that cause cancer.

So when you put everything together, they found out that environmental pollution is actually the highest contributor. So, we are loading our bodies with few radicals from all these things and they get deposited and cause inflammation. If you have pains and take drugs to reduce the tumour load, it will not cure you. But if you are detected early, you will still not be able to achieve cure and most of those ones happen to the younger age group. And the younger age group incidence or prevalence is higher in black population and Nigeria is one of them. And so, that is why we are increasing efforts to have our population understand why, from the time the girl-child develops breast bust, she should start examining herself.

Breast examination
So, here, in Nigeria, our recommendation is that people should start doing breast-self examination as soon as the breast buds come out, monthly.atr
Then clinical breast examination once in a year, the moment you get to the age of 20. And if you have a family history of breast cancer; you should not do only clinical breast examination once in a year or self breast examination monthly, you should also see a doctor and start doing ultra sound test of the breast before the age of 40 and then mammography after 40. Some people may insist that mammography should not be done annually until the age of 55. The same thing goes for cervical screening. And then on prostate cancer for men, you start your screening at the age of 40. Some have even dropped it to 35 because black men are more likely to have prostate cancer than their Caucasian counterpart. And this shows that we need to look at what actually are the contributors and how we can address them.

The World Cancer Research Fund International has been working on it. The body awarded seven new grants for research into the link between diet, nutrition, physical activities and cancer. The grants, awarded as part of our 2014 and 2015 circle fund research around the world, cover a wide range of topics from wearable technology to the Mediterranean diet. The studies will help to fill some of the gaps in our knowledge so that we can better understand cancer prevention and survival. It has been confirmed irrevocably that in red and processed meat has a cancer link.
Then we are using a lot of food enhancers; monosodiumglutamines that have been found to cause cancer. And we usually go to the market to get fresh chickens. Unfortunately, most of these chickens are from poultries that are not well kept. We need more oversight in our food production. Now our complex carbohydrates are very good, they have high fibre. Nigeria is so rich in different forms of legumes to eat instead of these refined carbohydrates which are imported.

What are the options available for cancer?
You have different forms. Depending on the stage it has reached before intervention, it is either to reduce the mass size or take it out completely, especially for the breast cancer. Now, apart from surgical intervention, there is chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is drug intervention. It is so expensive that it is unaffordable unless you are very rich. You see a situation where people pay N40,000 every month to N160,000 every six weeks or more. And it is usually for as long as your body can tolerate it. But these days, there are supportive therapies to assist the sufferer to weather the storm of chemotherapy. Then there is radio-therapy. But the story in Nigeria is abysmal.

Whereas we are supposed to have one radio-therapy machine per one million population, according to the International Atomic-Energy Commission, in Nigeria, we have only one functional clinic. Ordinarily, the machine should have a life span of of seven years but this one is 16 years old and recently broke down. And before it broke down, there were over 300 patients waiting because people were coming from all over the country. Nigeria has 105,000 cancer patients that are treated with radiotherapy in a year. Now, let us compare Nigeria with some countries like South Africa. South Africa has 18 clinics and the population is very small; so they have one machine for 1.3 million people while Nigeria has one machine for 180 million people.

Japan has 611 therapy machines at the rate of one machine per 150,000 people. China has 463 units; that works out to one machine to 1.8million people. Actually, a national emergency has been declared concerning cancer in Nigeria. Over 80% of the people leaving Nigeria for medical treatment, are going out because of cancer. If we can increase the facilities for screening for early detection through mobile screening van, that will take the screening to the people where they are located so that they can comply with the screening recommendations, then, we will be getting some result in our efforts to tackle cancer.

Are there side effects for cancer treatment?

Yes. One of the things that have developed over time is immune booster that is able to help your body weather the storm of cancer treatment. In the past, we had chemotherapy drugs that will kill  the normal cells and kill the cancer. But now a lot of therapies have been developed that target the cancer cells more accurately so that it will defeat the side effects that people are talking about because this side effect issue, people use it to deceive patients by telling them that, when they do chemotherapy, they will die very fast. And that is why we have introduced the Go Pink Day Campaign which we started on October 15.

Now, in all that fun of going pink, we reduce the fear associated with cancer and we are sustaining it for the next five years. But as we do that, we need to have corporate alliance so that we do not leave government alone to handle the problem. When you have corporate entities adopt the mobile service for the states, screening for cancer can be taken to the doorsteps of the people. In America, millions of people are living with breast cancer, millions of people are living with cancer because they were detected early.

But here, in Nigeria, you will hear that this person has cancer and the next thing is that he is dead. And we think cancer diagnosis is a death sentence, no; it is a death sentence because of the late detection. If we increase early diagnosis, then cancer will not be synonymous with death and we will increase on the survival rate. I know of women here in Nigeria who came early and they have lived for 40 years and they are still alive. So our target in the next five years is to make history on cancer. If we do that, we will improve on mobility and mortality in Nigeria.

4 Simple Exercises To Help You Get Rid Of Belly Fat

Its always disappointing when your trouser's waist line is being obstructed by a protruding and sometimes sagging stomach. That's because of excess belly fat, and how can you get rid of it?

The names used to acknowledge belly fat are numerous, pot belly, áfor bolombolo (Igbo phrase for balloon stomach), and beer belly. This is a very common situation among the populace. It's actually more common in women than in men, so Madame's take note. We will show our versatility by writing on fitness. Today you will learn about belly fat, it's health risks and the simplest exercises that will help you get rid of that self esteem assassin. Are you with me? Let's go.

Here's a little introduction;
Belly fat or abdominal fat is a condition that is characterized by excess fat accumulating in the abdominal area. The name of the fat is Adipose tissue. It is primarily caused by eating too much carbohydrates. And secondarily caused by drinking too much alcohol.

There is a big reason to worry about it because of the huge connection between excess belly fat and the risk of getting cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes and Alzheimer's disease.
It's actually not all that bad because it also secretes a hormone called leptin. This hormone regulates satisfaction from hunger. This is just to show you that belly fat is not bad, you just don't need excess.

Before we see the exercises I want us to bear something in mind. It is not possible to loss fat in just one specific area of your body by exercising. You will also lose fat at other regions. And that eating more carbohydrates while exercising won't help you reduce the fat. Proteins and fruits will do. Now let's check them out.

1. Walking
Walking is one of the most simplest, commonest and safest exercise. It can help you burn fat in the abdominal region. Of course you might say that you walk often. But if you want to burn calories by walking it should be in a fast paced manner, no matter the distance. Walking also helps the cardiovascular system. It is great for reducing dangerous belly fat around the kidney and liver. Make your walking more fast paced to get better results. If you are worried that your crush might see you "cheetah-walking" you could walk indoors or do it very early in the morning.

2. Swimming
Swimming is an excellent cardiovascular exercise that alleviates the presence of abdominal fat in the tummy. Swimming challenges a lot of your muscles. It also has few risks except for, you know, drowning. Like I said about walking, you should also swim in a fast paced manner to achieve a flat tummy. Your swimming should involve high tempo and strenuous strokes. Here's a bonus, swimming in warm water will help you lose more calories than a cold one. This is basically due to increased metabolism and sweating.

3. Cycling
Cycling is a great exercise. It just doesn't helps you burn calories. It also helps you relax mentally. It involves almost all the muscles of the body. But the area cycling is more effective is your leg muscles. However cycling also reduces belly fat when it is done regularly. Cycling challenges the abdominal muscles by using its force to push the leg.

4. The lying leg raise exercise
This exercise is pretty simple and self explanatory. All you do is, you lie on a flat surface, down on your back with your arms behind your head and you raise your leg one after the other up and down. This exercise will contract your abdominal muscles and groin muscles too. You may feel pain at first but with time and regular practice you will get over it. Another way to do it is to lie on your back, place your two legs together and raise them up. Then have someone push your leg down with force. What you then do is hold your leg before it goes down. Repeat it often.
Thanks for reading. Please comment.

Prostate Cancer- MEN - MY CHILDHOOD; MY MANHOOD; MY PROSTATE.. MUST READ!!

FULL TEXT OF PROSTATE HEALTH AWARENESS LECTURE PRESENTED AT MEETING OF Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship International (FGBMFI NORTH-GATE CHAPTER) NIGERIA

Ladies and Gentlemen

I am here to speak with you on Prostate. The topic is misleading. Is prostate strictly for men? Yes, ONLY men have prostate and ONLY men over 40years but the healthcare enlightenment is for everyone. There is no woman who does not know a man 40 years and above – father, uncle, brother, son, friend, neighbor, colleague …

Essentially what I will be doing today is health promotion. Responsible health promotion must provide three things:

1. Information
2. Reassurance
3. A plan of action.

Let me start with a background on prostate health.

Everyone has a pair of kidneys. The job of the kidney is to remove waste. It is the LAWMA (waste management company) of your body. Everyday your blood passes through the kidney several times to be filtered. As the blood is filtered, urine is formed and stored in a temporary storage tank called the urinary bladder.

If there were to be no urinary bladder, as a man walks on the road, urine will be dropping.
Now think of the plumbing work in your house. Think of the urinary bladder as the overhead storage tank. From the storage tank, a good plumber will run pipes to other parts of the house, including the kitchen. God in His wisdom ran pipes from our urinary bladder to the tip of the penis. The pipe is called the urethra. Just below the bladder and surrounding the urethra is a little organ called the prostate gland.

The prostate gland is the size of a walnut and weighs about 20grams. Its job is to make the seminal fluid which is stored in the seminal vesicle. During sexual intercourse, seminal fluid comes down the urethra and mixes with the sperms produced in the testicles to form the semen. So semen technically is not sperm. It is sperm + seminal fluid. The seminal fluid lubricates the sperm.

After age 40, for reasons that may be hormonal, the prostate gland begins to enlarge. From 20 grams it may grow to almost 100 grams. As it enlarges, it squeezes the urethra and the man begins to notice changes in the way he urinate.
www.facebook.com/trevobenefits
If you have a son under 10, if he has a little mischief like we all did at that age, when he comes out to urinate, he can target the ceiling and the jet will hit target. Call his father to do same, wahala dey. His urine stream is weak, cannot travel a long distance and sometimes may come straight down on his legs. So he may need to stand in awkward position to urinate.

Not many men will be worried their urine stream cannot hit the ceiling. Toilets are on the floor and not on the ceiling. But other symptoms begin to show.

TERMINAL DRIPPLING:
The man begins to notice that after urinating and repacking, urine still drops on his pants. This is the reason why after an older man urinates, he has to ring bell. A younger man simply delivers to the last drop and walks away. Just see an older man coming from the bathroom. Sometimes he may clutch the newspaper closely to hide the urine stains, particularly on plain colored trousers.

HESITANCY
At this point you wait longer for the urine flow to start. There are 2 valves that must open for you to urinate – the internal and external sphincters. Both open but because of obstructions in the urethra, you wait long for the flow to start.

INCOMPLETE EMPTYING

You have this feeling immediately after urinating that there is still something left.

As all these things happen, the bladder begins to work harder to compensate for the obstruction in the urethra. The frequency of urination goes up. Urgency sets in. sometimes you have to practically run into the toilet. Nocturia also becomes common. You wake up more than 2 times at night to urinate. Your wife begins to complain.

Men being men may not talk to anyone even at this point. Then the more serious complications start.

Stored urine gets infected and there may be burning sensation when urinating.

Stored urine forms crystals. Crystals come together to form stone either in the bladder or in the kidney. Stones may block the urethra.
Chronic urinary retention sets in. The bladder stores more and more urine. The size of the bladder is 40 - 60 cl. A bottle of coke is 50cl. As the bladder stores more urine it can enlarge up to 300cl. An overfilled bladder may leak and this leads to wetting / urinary incontinence. Also the volume may put pressure on the kidney and may lead to kidney damage.
What may likely bring the man to hospital is acute urinary retention. He wakes up one day and he is not able to pass urine.

Everything I have described above is associated with prostate enlargement, technically called benign prostate hyperplasia.

There are other diseases of the prostate like:
1. Prostatitis – inflammation of the prostate
2. Prostate cancer – cancer of the prostate.

This discussion is on prostate enlargement.

I have bad news and good news.

The bad news is that everyman will have prostate enlargement if he lives long enough.
The good news is that there are life style changes that can help the man after 40 to maintain optimum prostate health.

Nutrition
Look at what you eat. 33% of all cancers, according to the US National Cancer Institute is related to what we eat.
Red meat everyday triples your chances of prostate disease. Milk everyday doubles your risk. Not taking fruits / vegetables daily quadruples your risk.

Tomatoes are very good for men. If that is the only thing your wife can present in the evening, eat it with joy. It has loads of lycopene. Lycopene is the most potent natural antioxidant.
Foods that are rich in zinc are also good for men. We recommend pumpkin seeds (ugbogulu).
Zinc is about the most essential element for male sexuality and fertility.

Men need more zinc than women. Every time a man ejaculates he loses 15mg of zinc. Zinc is also important for alcohol metabolism. Your liver needs zinc to metabolize alcohol.

ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION
As men begin to have urinary symptoms associated with prostate enlargement, it is important they look at alcohol consumption. More fluid in means more fluid out.

Drink less. Drink slowly.

EXERCISE
Exercise helps build the muscle tone. Every man should exercise. Men over 40 should avoid high impact exercise like jogging. It puts pressure on the knees. Cycling is bad news for the prostate. We recommend brisk walking.

SITTING
When we sit, two-third of our weight rests on the pelvic bones. Men who sit longer are more prone to prostate symptoms. Do not sit for long hours. Walk around as often as you can. Sit on comfortable chairs. We recommend a divided saddle chair if you must sit long hours.

DRESSING
Men should avoid tight underwear. It impacts circulation around the groin and heats it up a bit. While the physiological temperature is 37 degrees, the groin has an optimal temperature of about 33 degrees. Pant is a no - no for men. Wear boxers.  Wear breathable clothing.

SMOKING
Avoid smoking. It affects blood vessels and impact circulation around the groin.

SEX
Regular sex is good for the prostate.

Celibates are more prone to prostate illness. While celibacy is a moral decision, it is not a biological adaptation. Your prostate gland is designed to empty its contents regularly.

For supplements recommendation:
After some years of recommendation and field happy client testimonies I strongly recommend Trevo Nutriceutical Intelligent Food Supplement. My reason is demonstrated in the diagram below.

With 174 Nutraceutical Ingredients Trévo truly is your answer for wellness and briefly I will mention out of Top 18 anti-cancer fruits and vegetables just one called Graviola or Soursop thats in Trevo

Graviola
www.facebook.com/trevobenefits

Found deep within the Amazon rain forest and most Africa countries, the graviola tree offers some of the most exciting nutritional discoveries in recent history. Graviola has a long history of use in herbal medicine as well as recorded indigenous use, and many of its uses in natural medicine have been validated by scientific research. Its benefits include the support of cardiovascular health and natural anti-bacterial properties. Much of the recent research on graviola, however, has been on phytochemicals found in the leaves, seeds, and stem of graviola which seem to be toxic to specific cancer cells.

Great advice from the Richest person in China Mr. Jack Ma

Jack Ma says, "Please tell your children that the world is changing every day and no one is going to wait for you in the past. When lighter was invented, matches slowly disappeared. When calculator was created, abacus was to fade away. When digital camera was designed, the market of negative film no longer existed.

When direct market selling/internet-based selling arises, traditional marketing declines. When smartphone with 4G (wireless internet access) was introduced to the world, you no longer need to turn on your computer at home. When WeChat and WhatsApp (mobile text/voice/video messaging) are developed, traditional text messaging is no longer as popular as before.

Let's not blame "Who took over Whose business." It's only because people are more adjustable and adaptable to new ideas and changes in the world.

Someone asks Jack Ma, "What is your secret for success?" He says, "Really simple...I am doing (action) while you're only watching."

Please remember that the world keeps changing every day. If you don't change, you'll be left behind. You reap what you sow with your time. If you spend time to drink, you may become an alcoholic. If you spend time to complain, you may become a blamer. If you spend time to beautify yourself, you may become a pretty girl/handsome guy. If you spend time to stay healthy, you may enjoy a healthy good life. If you spend time to be picky, you may become a 'mean' person. If you spend time to learn, you may gain wisdom. If you spend time with your family, you may foster a warm and loving relationship with your loved ones.

Let those who have mind mine from this  thought.

Brazil Warns Women Not To Get Pregnant

A link between a form of fetal brain damage and the mosquito-born zica virus has been confirmed by Brazilian health authorities .

The link between zica, first medically identified as a new disease half a century ago, and birth defects has never been made.

The virus, endemic in parts Africa, South America, Southeast Asia and some Pacific Islands, has until now been blamed for symptoms such as fever, mild headache, skin rashes, joint pain and conjunctivitis, or "red eye."

Initial analysis shows that the virus can be passed to a fetus and that the fetus is at greatest risk from the virus during the first three months of pregnancy, the statements said.

More tests and studies are needed to clarify the exact method of transmission and infection, the statement added.

A surge in recent months of babies born with microcephaly, or an unnaturally small brain, in Brazil's northeast, led authorities to suspect the virus may have more sinister effects than previously recorded,  the ministry said.

Microcephalic children can suffer developmental and intellectual difficulties that limit intelligence and muscle coordination for life.

The ministry's conclusion was made after tests on the tissue of a deceased child with microcephalic symptoms by the Ivandro Chagas Institute in Belém, Brazil, one of South America's leading health institutes. There is also evidence that zica has contributed to the deaths of adults weakened by other diseases.

Zica is transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito also known to carry the yellow fever, dengue, chikungunya viruses.

The ministry said that the new information means that zica has become a serious risk to public health and that Brazil must embark on an emergency program to control the Aedes aegypti mosquito to prevent the virus' spread.

In a note published on its website, the ministry insists that more research is needed to clarify the connection between the virus and the condition. It states the period of greatest risk for pregnant women appears to be in the first three months of gestation.

Though it is not official policy, Cláudio Maierovitch, the director of the communicable disease surveillance department at the ministry of health, has advised women in high-risk areas to avoid attempting to conceive.

“Don’t get pregnant at the moment,” he said. “That’s the wisest course of action.”

Brazil has invited the Atlanta, Georgia-based U.S. Center for Disease Control to visit the country and observe research and control efforts, the health ministry said.

This is a very serious case humanity keeps getting one surprise attack after the other. Personally I have done some research and discovered the most preventive health measure is to have a high immune system at all time.

That is why I am such a strong proponent of Trévo. I have never seen a liquid nutritional formula that is so completely absorbed into the gastrointestinal tract or that works as well as this product does.

Trévo gives your body the full spectrum of the nutrients that it needs for optimum health. You might wonder just what I mean by “optimum health” when it comes to the way your body functions. To my way of thinking, it’s a combination of elements that add up to more energy, a healthier body, and a good mental attitude. When your body achieves this kind of wholeness, it is more able to protect and heal itself naturally. And when wholeness is the goal, instead of merely addressing pain and disease, your body naturally moves toward health all by itself.

13 facts about HIV/AIDS ahead of World AIDS Day

13 facts about HIV/AIDS ahead of World AIDS Day

HIV/AIDS remains one of the world's most significant public health challenges.

World AIDS Day on Dec. 1 is used to unite people in the fight against HIV, the human immunodeficiency virus first identified in 1984, to show their support for people living with HIV and commemorate those who have died.

The member countries of the United Nations agreed in September in a new set of global goals to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030.

Here are some facts about AIDS in 2015 with data from the World Health Organisation, the United Nations children's agency UNICEF, and UNAIDS:

1. Globally about 36.9 million people are living with HIV including 2.6 million children.

2. An estimated 2 million were infected in 2014.

3. An estimated 34 million people have died from HIV or AIDS, including 1.2 million in 2014.

4. The number of adolescent deaths from AIDS has tripled over the last 15 years.

5. AIDS is the number one cause of death among adolescents in Africa and the second among adolescents globally.

6. In sub-Saharan Africa, the region with the highest prevalence, girls account for 7 in 10 new infections among those aged 15-19.

7. At start of 2015, 15 million people were receiving antiretroviral therapy compared to 1 million in 2001.

8. Despite widespread availability of HIV testing, only an estimated 51 percent of people with HIV know their status.

9. The global response to HIV has averted 30 million new HIV infections and nearly 8 million deaths since 2000.

10. In 2015, Cuba was the first country declared to have eliminated mother-to-child transmission of HIV.

11. 17% of men who have sex with men (MSM) are living with HIV in Nigeria.1 They are the only key affected population that actually experienced a rise in HIV prevalence between 2007 and 2010, now accounting for 10% of all new HIV infections in the country.

12. 3.4 million Nigerians live with HIV

13. Of these, 430,000 are children under 14, according to a recent report of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). Nigeria accounts for one third of all new infections among children in the 20 worst hit countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

5 Okra Health Benefits

Okra one of my favorite vegetable because of the easiness it gives me when prepared as Okro soup  is fast gaining a reputation as a  'super food' for people with or at risk of diabetes or cancer.

Commonly referred to by its biological names Abelmoschus esculentus and Hibiscus esculentus, okra is known to have a positive effect on blood sugar control, among many other health benefits.

Nutritional Value
Okra provides a good source of vitamin C, vitamin A, folacin and other B vitamins plus magnesium, potassium and calcium. It is fat-free, saturated-fat-free, cholesterol-free and low in calories. A substantial source of dietary fiber, okra provides over five grams per three and one-half ounce serving. The extra folate supplied by this vegetable is beneficial to pregnant women.

1. Okra is an Extremely Rich Source of Fiber
It contains both soluble and insoluble fiber. The fiber and the mucilaginous content in Okra provide many important health benefits that are absolutely worth mentioning.

Soluble fiber (mucilage) binds to bile acids in the intestines and inhibits the absorption of cholesterol, as well as metabolic toxins.

In this way it reduces the risk of heart disease and carries harmful toxins out of the body, while lubricating the digestive tract.

The okra fiber helps prevent flatulence and constipation, by absorbing water and ensuring bulk in stools.
The high content of fiber found in okra helps regulate blood sugar levels, by slowing down the intestinal absorption of sugar, and thereby the release of sugar into the system.
The Okra fiber has also an excellent ability to propagate the formation of good bacteria, i.e. probiotics, within the intestines. In this way it contributes to a healthy intestinal tract.
Okra is very efficient in protecting the intestinal membrane, and thereby decreasing the risk of inflammations that can lead to certain forms of cancer, especially colorectal cancer.

2.Okra Helps Lose Weight

Okra contains 35 calories per cup. It has no salt and no saturated fats, and is cholesterol free.
Okra is high in fiber, which helps keep the intestinal tract in good shape and increases the sense of satiety.
Okra is a nutrient rich food that provides our body with numerous vitamins and minerals, without adding any extra calories to our meals. This makes it an excellent food in weight loss diets and programs.

3. low glycemic index:
Okra is a good choice for people with diabetes, as it has a low glycemic index of about 20.

4. Beauty and Welness
Okra helps maintain the skin healthy and smooth, and free of acne and blemishes. It is said that Cleopatra and Yang Guifei loved to eat plenty of okra!

5.Cancer
Thanks to its high concentration of antioxidants, okra can help prevent the formation of cancerous cells.

Omoni Oboli Gives 6 How To Tips For Proper Child Nutrition

Being a mother is one of the greatest roles any woman could ever take. It comes with its challenges and bright sides but the joy of watching children grow healthy everyday is one of the most rewarding experiences any mother can have.

Award winning Nollywood star Omoni Oboli believes that Nutrition is very important for everyone, but especially important for children because it is directly linked to all aspects of their growth and development.

Omoni, has taken to her social media pages to drive a campaign of good and proper nutrition for growing children while encouraging mothers to place a high priority on proper child nutrition.

For Omoni, every child has the right to be properly developed in the journey to adulthood; Omoni believes that proper nutrition influences all the facets of a child growth from physical build, to brain development, behaviour and even attention span.

    Omoni shares her experience as a caring mother, explaining how she helps her children grow daily, deriving so much joy from it and how she believes all children deserve the same. What she said;

    Hello fabulous moms…and dads!

I know a few dads who are primary care givers to their children. We are all on this journey of motherhood or fatherhood and it really never ends. Your kids are still going to call you when they’re fifty (you’ll still be alive then by God’s grace) to ask for some advice or the other. We owe it to them, to do everything in our power to make sure they grow everyday! And kids really grow everyday! I know there are days I woke up to see that one of my sons grew taller overnight!
Today we are talking about how to boost your kids appetite.

One of our fabulous moms asked yesterday and so I decided to share my knowledge on this. Please feel free to leave a comment on your own tips and tricks on this subject. My first son, Tobe, was breastfed for 6 months! After that, he became an extremely picky eater! Simply put, he didn’t eat. We started introducing solids but he just didn’t want food, Period! At a point, we discovered he could stomach custard, so we started feeding him custard but you can’t feed a child with only custard for months! The only saving grace was the milk we fortified the custard with.
Enough about the problem. Let me share some of what I did to get him to start eating.

Before I share, it’s important to note that you must first find out if the lack of appetite is due to an underlying condition. So take your child to see a Doctor to rule out that possibility. Tobe didn’t have any condition, he just didn’t like food so here are some of the things I did…

    1. Meal times have to be fun! The environment shouldn’t be rigid. Play your child’s favorite music, buy different colorful dishes and have your child pick their dishes at meal time. Involve them in meal preparations and setting the table for meal time. Make it a happy chore. As much as you can, eat together as a family in a casual setting. Don’t be too strict with table manners. They’ll learn with time.

    2. Experiment with different foods to find out what stimulates your child’s appetite. Healthy snacks such as milk and fruits can be given between meals to give them more nutrients but don’t give snacks just before a meal.

    3. Don’t store too much unhealthy snacks at home because children can loose their appetite for proper meals if they get too fond of eating unhealthy snacks.

    4. I believe an increase in the child’s physical activity helps a great deal in improving appetite because it will stimulate hunger. Riding a bicycle, running around, swimming and other activities are great. If you can, do it with them. At least you can burn some fat in the process or keep fit!

    5. Set regular meal times, that way your child’s body gets used to desiring food at certain times. With Tobe, I made sure we had 3 proper meal times and 2 in between snack times.

    6. Don’t give up on a particular food the first time you try it and your child rejects it. Keep giving it in small quantities.

I’ve heard it said that you would have to try a particular food 21 times before you conclude that a child doesn’t like that food.

You can also try cooking it differently. Pay attention to the taste. I realised that Tobe didn’t like the ready-made pureed meals. You know the ones in little containers. So I decided to start making my own. I would read the labels and buy the same ingredients. So for instance, a typical meal could be carrots, potatoes, chicken and peas.

I really decided to start blending mine when I tasted one of the store bought ones and said to myself, “no wonder he doesn’t like it.” The food was bland! So I would boil chicken, carrots, potatoes, peas sometimes fish, parsnip, etc and then blend or puree them. As he got older, I started mashing instead of blending until he could eat them boiled. Today, Tobe is a healthy eater and those days of struggling are long gone.

I hope this helps someone. Please feel free to share this post with others and don’t forget to leave your comments. If you have any tips, share as well. We are all here to learn the best ways to make our children GROW EVERYDAY! Keep smiling!

Why People Choose Job Security Over Freedom of Life

The primary reason many people seek job security is because that’s what they are taught to seek, both at school and at home.

As adults, millions of people still continue to follow that advice. Many of us are conditioned from our earliest days to think about job security, rather than financial security or financial freedom.

And because most of us learn little to nothing about money at home or at school.

it’s only natural that we cling ever more tightly to the idea of job security instead of reaching for financial freedom.

The main reason that 90 percent of the population is unsuccessful and poor is because that’s the side they learned about at school.

After leaving school, they often end up with lots of expenses and may fall into debt.

This means they must cling ever tighter to a job, or to professional security, just to pay the bills.

Searching for Financial Freedom.

Many people spend their lives in search of security or freedom, but wind up instead going from job to job.

It’s a long and vicious cycle of discontent.

In my opinion, you should make a serious effort not to find a new job if you’re unhappy, but to begin moving to the business world as fast as you can.

That's why i recommend network marketing for people who are just starting out and don't have a lot of money to invest.

But research shows that 90% of people in network marketing don't understand the business and 90% of people not involved in it too don't understand it.

That's why most people will prefer to remain broke all their lives than to start an home based business.
